What do you think about "appropriation?" Do you think artists should be able to do this without copyright issues? Create links of some cool examples.

Here are a few link you can look at to develop your own opinion:

What is Appropriation?...

  1. Appropriation is a fundamental aspect in the history of the arts (literary, visual, musical). Appropriation can be understood as "the use of borrowed elements in the creation of a new work."

I do not see anything wrong with appropriation. As long as artists are not using all elements of the original artists picture. And they are changing it to make it their own.

  2. This is an interesting question. I think that appropriation can lead to the development of very interesting works of art, depending on how imaginative the artist is. I think that the original art work can actually become more popular when others alter it (Obama posters for example). I do understand copyright concerns however. I think artists should try to make something significantly different that they can call it their own even though they take the majority of their inspiration from another.
