What is Art?

What do you think art is? Do you think it is necessary? If you could name one artist that you love who would it be?

  1. Art is a way through which people express themselves. People us art to portray how they feel, or their view off the world around them.
Art is indeed very necessary. You can look at someone's art and be able to interpret what you see or what's going on with that person.
I am not very into art, so I have no favorite artists. But I indeed love the art I see in my pre-k class. It is natural, and innocent. I never have an idea of what it is, but the children are always able to explain what they are drawing. Basically, I love free spirited art by children.

  2. I have to agree with you Karen. Art is expression, but to me, an art piece is an impression of how artists express themselves. They leave an impression of their expression. Yes, art is necessary because it allows students, young children and adults to have a creative outlet outside of constant academia. As for a fine artist I don't love but admire, would be painters that have made their mark with a particular brushstroke, or is known for their painted subjects. If I had a choice between classic painters like Vincent Van Gogh, Monet, and Peter Paul Rubens, it'd be Rubens. As for today's painters, Merriam, Kush, Lassen, Gonsalves, and Kinkade... I can't pick just one. But if I was forced to pick, it'd be Lassen.
